Reel Fellowship’s ‘Calling The Shots’-An Evening of Film & Conversation with Nana Asihene presented by Church of Stories

Reel Fellowship, Accra Art District, and Cinema57 hosted Calling The Shots, an open-air cinema experience and filmmaker conversation held in the heart of the Accra Art District, Osu. The event featured celebrated Ghanaian director Nana Asihene (of Bravado!), whose visionary work has helped shape the visual and narrative language of Ghanaian music, commercials, and storytelling.

Hosted by Joewackle Kusi of Church of Stories, the night featured an intimate conversation that explored Asihene’s inspirations, his journey directing music videos for Ghana’s top artists, and his reflections on navigating the country’s creative ecosystem. Several creatives in the audience contributed to the conversation by voicing their perspectives on the challenges within the industry and shared hopes for more platforms to showcase their own works.

The evening’s screenings included one music video shot by Asihene for R2Bees, ‘Makoma’ and two of his original short films, AAHI, and Wrong Way. These films offered the audience a layered look into his creative lens. AAHI sparked a lively conversation around the theme of duality and self-deception, while Wrong Way, deepened the discourse around the filmmaker’s evolving style and influence.

Bravado! is proud to be part of this cinematic culture shift, as we develop a slate of bold, original, feature-length projects. Stay tuned.
